Data Strategy & Architecture

Data Strategy Consulting for Brisbane Businesses

Most SMEs don't need a 60-page strategy document. They need a clear, actionable roadmap built around their actual data, team, and budget. That's what we build.

What a data strategy actually is

Forget the vendor decks. A real data strategy is the answer to four specific questions about your business:

  • What decisions are we getting wrong? Pricing calls based on gut. Hiring choices made too late. Sales forecasts that miss by 40%. The strategy starts here — with the decisions that cost you money.
  • What data would change those decisions? Not all data is worth collecting. We focus on the signals that would actually shift behaviour if your team had them.
  • Where does that data live? Your ERP, your CRM, spreadsheets on someone's desktop, data locked in a SaaS tool you pay $800/month for. We map the full landscape.
  • What's stopping you using it? Sometimes it's a technical gap. Often it's a people or process problem — data that exists but no one trusts, or reports that take three days to produce manually.

Once we have clear answers to those four questions, the strategy writes itself. The roadmap is the logical sequence of steps to close the gap between where your data is now and where it needs to be.

Our three-step approach

We don't parachute in with a framework built for a Fortune 500. Every engagement is scoped to your team size, budget, and timeline.

01

Assess

A structured data maturity audit across your people, processes, and tools. We interview key stakeholders, review your current data infrastructure, and score you against a maturity model across six dimensions: data collection, storage, governance, integration, analytics capability, and culture. You get an honest picture of where you are — including the gaps most teams prefer not to talk about.

02

Design

We translate the audit findings into a concrete architecture design. This includes a current-state and future-state architecture diagram, technology stack recommendations (with cost estimates), and a prioritised backlog of data initiatives. Every recommendation is justified against a specific business outcome — not just best practice for its own sake.

03

Execute

The strategy is only useful if it gets built. We offer phased implementation support — data engineering work to build the foundations, Power BI dashboards to surface the insights, and check-ins at each milestone to keep the project honest. You can engage us for the full build or hand the roadmap to your internal team.

What you receive

Every data strategy engagement concludes with a full deliverables package — not just a slide deck. These are working documents your team can act on immediately, regardless of whether you continue working with us.

The governance framework starter pack is particularly valuable for businesses preparing for rapid growth or an acquisition — it gives you the documentation foundation that due diligence will ask for.

  • Data maturity scorecard
  • Current-state architecture diagram
  • Future-state architecture design
  • Technology selection report
  • Prioritised data backlog
  • Governance framework starter pack

Who this is for

Our data strategy work is best suited to specific situations. If you recognise your business in any of these, we should talk.

10–200 staff, outgrown spreadsheets

You've hit the point where spreadsheets are breaking under the weight of the business — but you haven't yet hired a Head of Data. You need a plan before you commit to a platform or a hire.

Digital transformation without a data plan

Your business is implementing a new ERP, CRM, or cloud system — but nobody has mapped out what happens to all that data and how it connects. We bridge the gap between the tech project and the analytics outcome.

BI tools with low adoption

You've invested in Power BI, Tableau, or another analytics platform but nobody uses the reports. The problem is rarely the tool — it's a strategy problem upstream. We diagnose what went wrong and rebuild the foundation properly. Relevant for construction firms and professional services businesses alike.
